I recommend a stone by combining a number of assessment factors including:

  • the stone’s proportions and angles
  • how confident I am that the recipient will absolutely love love love the diamond;
  • excellent light return
  • optical precision
  • good, clear, high quality diamond material
  • the value I believe it represents;
  • must be deemed eye-clean by me;
  • how well it fits the brief.

Questions I often get asked:

Q: Is the color of an G graded diamond going to be noticeable?

A: GIA graded diamonds which have received a G color grade may have a detectable color when viewed at certain angles. If the stone is cut to ideal standards then the color is almost impossible to detect in the face up position.

Q: If there is color in a diamond is it always yellow?

A: Common hues found among lab created diamonds are brown, yellow, gray, and blue. Other hues are also possible. The market tends to dislike certain hues so I don’t recommend diamonds with an obvious blue, brown or gray hue.

Q: I can see some impurities in VS1 and VVS2 diamond videos. Will those be visible to the naked eye?

A: Those clarity grades are meant to be eye clean grades and the impurities should be too small to view with the unaided eye.

Q: Do all the diamonds you recommend have a GIA grading report?

A: The table above shows each respective diamond’s grading report number which includes the grading lab’s acronym. A diamond will only be sent to one grading lab and will not have two grading reports.

Q: is a diamond with a GIA grading report better than one with an IGI or GCAL report?

A: Each stone has to be assessed on its own merits. It can happen that a diamond which would have received an SI2 grade from GIA may receive an SI1 clarity grade from another lab. The same goes for color grades. I tend to err on the side of caution when recommending non GIA graded stones with lower (worse) grades.

Q: why do I see the same stone listed on two different sites?

A: This means that the stone is held at the manufacturer’s facility and the stone has been made available to retailers for sale. This system allows vendors to list a larger selection of diamonds without having to invest in the merchandise first.

Q: how can I make sure I get the stone I want? If it’s listed on several sites isn’t there a chance it may get sold elsewhere as I am adding it to my shopping cart?

A: The safest course of action is to buy a diamond that is in stock at the vendor. Whiteflash for example allows you to search for “ready to ship” diamonds. Brian Gavin’s Premium Lab diamonds are also ready to ship.

Q: Which of the vendors with whom you are affiliated have the best settings?

A: There are many rave reviews for settings by Clean Origin , Frank Darling, Loose Grown Diamond, Whiteflash, Victor Canera, and Brian Gavin Diamond, as well as for Ritani’s custom rings.

Q: Do I have to pay import duty if I buy from Loose Grown Diamond?

A: No. Loose Grown Diamond will FedEx your purchase to their distribution center in New York and FedEx it straight to you from there. If you were to request expedited shipping for your purchase to be shipped directly from their cutting center in Surat you still wouldn’t need to pay import duties on a loose lab created diamond.

Q: Are any lab diamonds certified carbon neutral?

A: Diamonds sold by VRAI are made in America by Diamond Foundry using renewable energy and are certified carbon neutral.
