Selection Process
My selection process primarily follows GIA’s guidelines as far as overall shape for oval cut diamonds: https://4cs.gia.edu/en-us/blog/allure-of-an-oval-diamond/
- symmetry
- graceful outline
- harmonious proportions
- no flat nor bulging shoulders
Beyond that I look for additional factors which include, though are not limited to:
- diamonds with a girdle that is neither too thin nor too thick (from 3% to 4.5% when expressed as a percentage of the diamond’s width)
- decent distribution of light areas.
- ends do not show up dark
When it comes to fluorescence I generally recommend medium or lower, with an occasional exception where I deem that the diamond has a low likelihood of looking milky under UV light according to GIA’s research: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpNKBVpU0gU
